The earthquake's impact was detected by seismic networks in Australia, New Zealand, and Fiji, underscoring its significance not only to Samoa but also to neighboring countries. The magnitude was measured by seismographs at the National Seismic Monitoring Center in Apia, providing an accurate assessment of the quake's power. While no tsunami warnings were issued for the region, the earthquake is believed to have been caused by tectonic activity in the Pacific Ring of Fire.
