Ongoing Gastric Illness Outbreaks at Cape Verde Resorts Linked to British Deaths

Four British tourists have died in late 2025 after falling ill with stomach problems shortly after returning from holidays in Cape Verde.

The incidents occurred at Riu Palace Santa Maria and Riu Karamboa hotels, prompting families to sue TUI, the tour operator responsible for arranging their trips. According to reports, the tourists experienced severe gastric issues within days of arriving back in the UK, with some passing away soon after.
