Vanuatu Seeks Full Climate Compensation from Polluters in Historic UN Resolution

Vanuatu submits draft UN resolution to ICJ demanding full compensation from countries responsible for historical and ongoing greenhouse gas emissions. The move comes as the world faces catastrophic climate tipping points, with Vanuatu among the most vulnerable nations to rising sea levels, intensifying cyclones, and crippling droughts.

The draft resolution is based on Vanuatu's experience gained from its Climate Change Adaptation and Resilience Plan (CCARP), which prioritizes community-led adaptation initiatives, sustainable livelihoods, and climate-resilient infrastructure. By demanding full compensation, Vanuatu's government seeks to hold polluters accountable for their actions and secure necessary resources to support its own climate adaptation efforts.
